It’s been a while since I’ve had a proper blog. I’ve tried just simply using WordPress.com, which is a fine solution but doesn’t allow me to customize things in the ways I normally can in web design. I also kind of live out in social media with a lot of my updates–between TikTok and Twitter for updates and Letterboxd and Serializd for reviews, the need for a site wasn’t that huge for me. That said, as I’m gearing up to do more in the way of writing and game design (in addition to all the other projects I work on), it felt like it was time to reintroduce my blog.
My old blog was simply just that–a blog of musings and reviews. The biggest issue with that was the domain didn’t match my social media presence (and because my name as a domain is already being used, I need to ensure branding matches). Now, here, on ThatNerdyKev.com, not only is the branding on point, but it’s also a landing zone for all the things I work on and services I provide (mostly through Starbird Media, LLC). I’ve also realized that as great as some of these ‘Link in Bio’ sites (LinkTree for example) are, nothing beats your own domain. (Ironically, at the time of this writing I still need to create that landing page!)
What to Expect at ThatNerdyKev (dot com)
One of the first things I really want to get back into is reviewing comics. And while I could do that for other sites (and I may attempt to dip my toes into it again), there’s something so carefree about doing it on my own. I can do back issues, current issues, whatever I want, whenever I want. And with that, I’m also trying (and currently failing) to read two books a month, so why not post my full review here and tease it over on Good Reads?
I’ll also be providing updates to the miscellaneous projects I’m working on as well as my thoughts on those industries as a whole. My thoughts on everything really… this is my blog after all, I don’t have to be pigeonholed into podcasting and pop culture. I’d also love to include guest blogging from fellow podcasters, writers, game designers, and entrepreneurs. It’s a feature I see on blogs from people I admire, like Chuck Wendig, and I really enjoy it!
I don’t want to get ahead of myself. I still have a few more things to get this site completed while also producing multiple podcasts. But, it’s here. I’m here. And that’s a good start.
